Still no word on my laptop. Next Tuesday, if I'm lucky. I REALLY fucking hope it's next tuesday, because if it isn't I'm going to have to start college without a laptop. That, my friends, is a bad idea.
14 hasn't really gotten any closer to completion, but 15 and 16 are both laid out, mostly pencilled, and partially inked. I'll probably finish those up and start on 17 and 18 over the weekend, and that'll be the end of chapter one. (Fucking finally) After that, I'm going to have a one-month update hiatus while I work on the following: Chapter splash page for CH2, pages for Ch2, redrawing the first few pages of ch 1 at the right resolution, and a little secret project.
Oh, and I might get a bit of work done on MangaMacabre, this little thing I'm going to be handing out at a convention. But I don't really have to rush with that, as I get to work entirely at my own pace.
EDIT: 17 is laid out, 18... doesn't really take much laying out. *sweat* It's the page I know is going to take the longest, though. DX
AGAIN: Holy fuck, I'm on a roll tonight. 17 is mostly pencilled and partially inked. 18 has a rough sketch. Going back to 14 now, get that finished. |

Long time, no post, eh? I'm just taking a break from working on Deathwish updates as I type this. I have one of the early pages I'm redoing for print inked and toned, sitting on my desk, and pages 14 and 15 of the regular comic are being pencilled right now. My laptop has been in a repair shop for over three weeks now, and I will not be able to complete any pages until it has been repaired and returned to me. I guess this gives me a chance to build up a buffer, at least. |

Today's comic will be a little late. Don't blame me, blame Girl Genius. I love that comic so. fricken. much. I can't stop reading and rereading the bits with the Jägertrio. They're just the coolest characters ever. <3 I think Jägerkin are my new favorite fantasy race. 8D
...aaaanyways, my new Jäger obsession aside, the comic should be up by noon. It's an unusually detailed page, which is an extra reason it's so late. :P After I get the comic up, there might be some sort of valentines stuff. Iunno.

No updates this week. I've been drawing comics a week in advance, but I spend the last week studying nonstop for the North Bay Regional Academic Decathlon competition, so I didn't get a chance to draw them. The next two weeks will be three-update weeks to make up for it.

Woohoo! I've just passed the third week with no missed updates. :D That isn't a LOT of pages, given that I only update twice a week, but it's a pretty big deal for me. I'm so happy with my progress working on the pages, too. They might not all look stellar, but I'm learning one hell of a lot. ;)
I'm getting about 8 unique visitors per day, which means that SOME of you are at least stopping by more than once. 8) That's way more than I hoped for during the first month. Thank you so much!

Okay, so I'm getting a little behind. Sue me. The story development is going pretty well, I might post a few textless pages soon. I'm hoping to make it look as professional as possible. :3
So, to take up space, here's a little info on another character!
 Kyedi - A heart of... fur?
Name: Kyedi
Age: 16
Death: Blood loss
Notable qualities: Love for animals, oblivious, fox ears, Large gash in neck.
Abilities: Animal Empathy
Comments: Kyedi is only partially my character, to be honest. :P Back when I had Deathwish as a sort of roleplay, she was a gift to a close friend of mine. When she became a comic character, that friend and I sort of collaborated to create who she is now.
Unlike Joshua, who's gone through an amazing number of changes, Kyedi has stayed mostly the same since her conception. She's a very happy character, which has a strange contrast to the gaping wound in her neck, one of the most graphic injuries in the story. Despite appearances, she's entirely human. The extra set of ears are actually a headband she was wearing when she died, they somehow became part of her when she was given her physical form in Deathwish.
Eventually, her gruesome wound will be covered up by a handkerchief or a scarf. In the story, this will be because it's stopped bleeding so profusely. Outside of the story, it's because her wound is really damn hard to draw:
Kyedi is going to be pretty important later in the story, but at the start she'll mostly be a background character.

You know what the problem is with Deathwish? It's a problem I run into over and over again when writing the story: The characters are boring. There's nothing special or significant about them. That's going to change. I'm not going all "DIS IS MAH OC HLAF ANGEL HALF DEMON PRINCESS SPARKLEPANTZ! SHE CNA DO ANTHING AND GETS 2 KIS ALLL DA BOYS!", but there be a slightly more significant presence in some characters.

Haven't gotten much done over the past week, been too busy waiting for my new tablet to arrive. (And metabolizing the dosage increase in my antidepressants, those things really do a number on ya.) I got maybe another page's worth of script finished and I'm working on some new character designs. Nothing major.
Gah. Tired. New tablet coming in about an hour. That is all.

Name: Joshua ::Last Name Unavailable::
Age: 17
Death: Asphyxiation
Notable qualities: Asshole, burn marks.
Abilities: Absorbing Color
Comments: Joshua is the first DWA character I ever came up with, and my person character within DWA-related Roleplays. He was originally a pretty major player in the story, but in the new version he won't be particularly significant until later on. He's gone through a lot of changes since I first wrote him up over a year ago.
Originally, he was just a mischievous kid with a funny accent and a top hat. He liked to annoy people, but he had a good heart at the core of it all. After a couple months of developing his character, I decided to drop this. He gradually became meaner and meaner, by now he's become a heartless asshole who enjoys seeing others put themselves in though situations. He tags along with the main group within the stories, making their lives hard here and there but mostly staying out of the story.
Joshua's physical design has gone through a few changes as well, though the basics have always remained the same. He's always had gray hair, red eyes, and pale skin. He's always worn a tattered top hat, a vest too small for him, and pants too big for him. Within that however, a lot has still changed. The way I depict his burn marks has really changed too, as well as their location. I'm pretty happy with how he looks now, though I think his hair could still use a little work. ):

So, Deathwish has been officially shut down until the start of 2008. I just wasn't happy with where the comic was going and how it's story was being told. I'm going to be spending the next few months working things out, revamping the story and the characters. I'm pretty sure the story will be starting from an entirely different point, though most of the events will remain the same.
I've got about ten pages worth of script written out at this point. I'll be posting updates, excerpts, and character profiles as I get more work done. The next update'll be next week.
